Mike Tyson – The ‘Agile Guru’

I hadn’t really planned to quote Mike Tyson in the context of agile development. I’m not sure if I ever thought I’d quote him at all, however, when I heard this a few days ago it struck a chord.

“Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face”.

In an increasingly volatile and ever evolving technology landscape the only certainty is uncertainty. We have to be prepared and indeed anticipate the need to course correct as part of any delivery cycle depending on what “punches us in the face”.

Incremental development acknowledging that the end user rarely knows what they want until they see what they can have is, in my opinion as usual, the only sensible way to approach solution delivery; particularly in the fast paced world of retail.

Next week we explore Floyd Mayweather’s view on object orientation.
